I wrote in my journal today that these baked beans are made exactly as I learned from a former sister-in-law of David's. She learned directly from his Mother. I've made them many times and then go for long times without making them only to have him gently request them again. I've often considered modifications and 'improvements' to the basic recipe but today I realized why that has never occurred. These baked beans, made exactly like this, are a direct memory for David. They are a link to his Mother.
